How to protect yourself from skin cancer

While it's important we all get enough Vitamin D, you must remember to do it safely and responsibly.

It doesn't have to be sunny for you to be at risk

Skin cancer is mostly caused by UV light rays that damage the cells.

Even on cloudy days, the sun still emits UV light that can pass through the clouds and cause you to burn.

That's why it's important to wear an SPF of 30 or above if you plan on being outside.

Make sure you're staying sun smart by:

Using a high-factor sunscreen regularly, even on cloudy days

Dressing sensibly - this includes wearing light, long sleeve clothing, a hat, and sunglasses

Limit the amount of time you spend in the sun, especially between 10am and 3pm

Avoiding the use of sunbeds and sunlamps

Regularly checking your skin for any changes or discolouration, new moles or freckles
