Putting our region's cancer needs first

Research Funding

North West Cancer Research fund cancer research across a range of specialties. We fund research into understanding and stopping cancers that are most important and significant to the needs of the people of the North West of England and North Wales.

We fund only the highest quality research using a rigorous peer review process to determine the most relevant, important and worthy research.

We are members of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) and adhere to their processes and guidance to ensure our funding and management of our research priorities are transparent and rigorous.

Annually, we make several calls which are advertised via the website and through networks of academic institutions, our NHS partners and clinical research collaborators.

Our calls are streamed reflecting our research strategy priorities. These streams are developed with individual criteria and researchers should read and adhere to the relevant application guidance and criteria advertised with the individual stream.

In light of the current Covid-19 pandemic the Trustees of North West Cancer Research have paused a number of funding rounds in order to give us time to understand the impact of this unprecedented event on our finances and ability to generate funds going forwards. New funding rounds will be announced late 2020 when we hope to resume funding.
