Kidney cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK – and one which is increasingly common. Nationally kidney cancer rates have increased by over 1/3rd in the last decade and mortality from this condition is also rising.

The joint funding round invites applications from researchers for projects which seek to uncover knowledge into kidney cancer. The round is open to individuals working in a broad range of disciplines and studying the cause, care of and work towards the cure for this condition. Applications around the causes of kidney cancer in the north west of England, along with cancer inequalities would also be welcomed.

North West Cancer Research is an independent charity, dedicated to putting the cancer needs of the region first, by funding pioneering research to tackle the cause, improve the care and find the cure for cancer.

Kidney Research Northwest is another local charity, based at the University of Liverpool, which undertakes, promotes, develops and encourages research into diseases of the kidney and urinary tract and research into the treatment of such diseases.

Alastair Richards, CEO of North West Cancer Research, said of the joint funding round:

“We’re thrilled to be collaborating with another local charity to fund a project that will ultimately benefit our region and local communities as well as the future of kidney cancer research and treatment.”
