The deadline for submission is 5pm on 29 June 2026. Applications will be reviewed and evaluated on a competitive basis by the NWCR panel and the outcome ratified by our board of trustees. We expect applicants to be informed of the outcome by 30 September 2026.
The below terms of reference are to aid submission of proposals:
Funding is available to researchers working in institutions across the UK, however, a strong focus must be placed on benefitting those living in the North West of England and North Wales
Any sum can be requested up to a maximum of £50,000 but the Charity are likely to make several grants within the total funding envelope. The average award made under this scheme is expected to be around £10,000 - £15,000. Please note that funds must be spent within 24 months of the project award date.
The most important quality that the Charity is looking for is outstanding cancer research in the form of new pilot projects, which have a strong potential to lead to projects and/or programme grants.
All projects should concentrate on cancer types, techniques and/or treatments which most relevant to the people of the North West of England and / or North Wales;
Proposals for matched funding for access to-, use of- and/or purchase of- multiuser equipment will be considered;
Proposals for travel assistance and short research placements to encourage collaborations and knowledge exchange between laboratories, which will lead to successful project and/or programme grants, will be considered.
