Nikki Takes on the London Marathon for North West Cancer Research

Warrington local, Nikki Jones, is taking on the London Marathon for a second time to support North West Cancer Research.

This year the dedicated fundraiser's mission is even more personal. With several friends currently battling cancer, including a friend of over 20 years who has been recently diagnosed with throat cancer, Nikki is more determined than ever to raise vital funds and awareness in the fight against the disease.

Rather than running the marathon in the capital, Nikki will be tackling the 26.2 mile challenge 'her way' - completing the distance locally with the official London Marathon app keeping her on track.

Running on the same day as the official event, she'll have the support of her family and friends to cheer her on and, in true home-marathon style, will be able to cross her personal finish line and head straight for a well-earned bath and the comfort of her own bed.

Reflecting on her motivation, Nikki said:

"I have a few friends going through treatment to beat this horrible disease, so training for and completing the marathon is the least I can do to try and raise awareness and funds for the Charity. This year has become even more meaningful as one of my close friends will be undergoing treatment during my training months, on marathon day, and beyond."

Nikki's training is going well, and with the warmer spring weather arriving, she's been enjoying running outdoors, surrounded by wildlife. On a recent rare weekend off training, she still managed to clock up 10 miles walking around the beautiful city of Bath - demonstrating her dedication and passion for the Charity.

Her goal is to raise £1,000 before marathon day, knowing the significant impact it will have in supporting North West Cancer Research's vital, life-saving research projects.

"I know I'll be an emotional mess when I complete the distance, but having my loved ones there to celebrate with me will make it all the more special. My hope is that one day cancer will be a thing of the past."
