A dedicated fundraiser from Wrexham is preparing to take on his 27th London Marathon in support of North West Cancer Research.

61-year-old Chris Hall, who first took part in the event in 1989, will join up to 50,000 runners to complete the famous course on Sunday, 27th April, aiming to raise £2,000 for the regional charity.

Over the past two decades, Chris has raised an incredible £40,000 for cancer research, driven by a personal connection to the cause. He was inspired to fundraise after losing his father to throat cancer more than 30 years ago, at a time when no treatment was available.

Despite facing new physical challenges this year, Chris remains determined. He has adapted his training by combining walking, running, core exercises, and rowing to maintain his fitness, and he plans to take a cautious walk-run approach on race day.

Chris said: “When you see the health difficulties many people face, you realise that being able to run the London Marathon year after year is actually a privilege and something I am thankful for every day.

“I have the benefit of being able to train by running around my local National Trust property at Erddig, which is so beautiful. It makes the preparation all the more enjoyable.”

In recognition of his dedication, Chris was honoured with the North West Cancer Research Individual Fundraiser Award in 2024—a testament to his tireless efforts in supporting local, life-saving research projects.

Alastair Richards, CEO of North West Cancer Research, said: “We are in awe of Chris’ ongoing commitment and his remarkable fundraising achievements. His determination to keep going, despite physical challenges, is truly inspiring. The funds he raises continue to make a significant difference in helping us advance cancer research right here in the North West and in North Wales.”

North West Cancer Research is an independent charity dedicated to putting the region’s cancer needs first by funding life-saving research and education to tackle the cause, improve the care, and find the cure for cancer.
