Over 90 keen cyclists got back in the saddle this September for the sixth outing of our annual Cycle of Hope event.
This year’s Cycle took place on Sunday 22nd September and started and finished at Southport & Birkdale Sports Club.
Participants chose from a beginner-friendly 60km route or the more challenging 60 mile course, with both circling Lancashire and Merseyside countryside.
The weather was an extra challenge to participants in the latter half of the day as the wind picked up and the rain started, but they persevered and finished their course in high spirits as they collected their medals back at the Sports Club.
Over £25,000 has been raised through the event this year, which will support life-saving cancer research and education projects across the North West and North Wales.
One special rider was Rob Brittain, who rode alongside his brother-in-law Craig. Rob opted for the 60-mile route as part of a larger challenge, as he also took on the Great North Run half marathon earlier in the month.
Rob said: “It’s been a busy month, but it’s been brilliant to get involved in fundraising for such an important cause and complete my double challenge. The weather was an obstacle for both the events but crossing those finish lines makes it all worthwhile and the adrenaline is going no matter what!
“Cancer has left a mark on my family’s lives. Both my grandparents and mother-in-law passed away from this cruel illness. Witnessing their battles and feeling the impact of their absence has fuelled my determination to make a difference. Their memories will always be etched in our hearts, and I am hoping my contribution helps continue the innovative projects that North West Cancer Research are undertaking.”
