60-year-old Chris Hall, who first took part in the event in 1989, will join up to 50,000 runners to complete the famous course on Sunday 21st April, and hopes to raise £2,000 for the regional Charity.

Chris was inspired to raise money for cancer research after his father passed away from throat cancer over 30 years ago, at a time when there was no treatment available.

Having taken on a range of fundraising challenges since 2004, Chris has raised £39,000 for the cause to date, and is driven by the promising advances made in cancer treatment over the past three decades.

Originally from Essex, Chris has lived in North Wales since 1996 and attended Lancaster University.

“I'm happily retired now, so I have a bit more time for running, and I have loved training around the local Erddig National Trust estate. As this is my 26th London Marathon, I know what to expect but I also know how painful the race is getting past that 20th mile, but I always keep in mind the benefit of raising money for North West Cancer Research.

“I feel as motivated as ever to train hard now so that on the day of the London Marathon I can deal with everything the race throws at me. I really love standing on the start line with 50,000 fellow runners anticipating the exciting four hours ahead of me.

"I feed off the cheering crowd and the sights of London so that I can get into a good mental space to help carry me round the route, even when I start getting tired near the end, with 4-5 miles to go. I know I will raise the £2k for North West Cancer Research!"

Alastair Richards, CEO of North West Cancer Research: “We are in awe of Chris’ dedication to supporting our Charity and it is fantastic how much effort he continues to put into raising money for cancer research in the North West.”

‘We are extremely grateful to Chris for his efforts and the funds raised will be a huge help when it comes to advancing our work across the region and efforts across the region to prevent and treat cancer effectively.”

North West Cancer Research is an independent charity dedicated to putting the region’s cancer needs first by funding life-saving research and education to tackle the cause, improve the care, and find the cure for cancer.
