The partnership comes as part of Swinton Lions’ ongoing commitment to their local community, with plans to work alongside North West Cancer Research throughout the year to deliver educational outreach sessions surrounding cancer risk factors, signs and symptoms and healthier lifestyle choices.
The team have shown their support of the Charity already by including North West Cancer Research hoardings on their home pitch and the team will soon be sporting North West Cancer Research branded socks as they incorporate the Charity into their kit to further showcase the sponsorship.
The team will also host a series of bucket collections during home matches, with the first taking place on Friday 7th April, during the Swinton Lions v Widnes match.
Damian Ridpath, Director of Development for Swinton Lions said: “It’s brilliant to be partnering up with a local charity that has such a community focussed mission. The health of our local communities matters greatly to us, so alongside North West Cancer Research we’re pleased to be able to bring special educational sessions and insights to our family, friends and neighbours and do our bit to improve cancer rates in the area.
“The pitch looks great with the North West Cancer Research branding on and we’re proud to be playing not only alongside their branding but also in it, once we get the socks incorporated into our kit. We’re looking forward to what the year will bring working with the Charity and look forward to raising funds for such a worthwhile cause.”
Alastair Richards, CEO of North West Cancer Research said: “It’s great to have a local team, who are such a pillar of their community, partner up with us this year. We’re thrilled to be able to speak with teammates, supporters and neighbours of the club to spread vital awareness of the cancers most affecting the region, and provide knowledge on how we can all live a healthier lifestyle.
“We’re extremely grateful to the Swinton Lions team for also helping us to fundraise during the upcoming 2023 season, and promoting the Charity through branding on the pitch and in their kits. We look forward to our first bucket collection in April and the ongoing partnership with the team.”
