Putting our region's cancer needs first

The Brombay Bicycle Club’s 100 Mile Challenge

Friends and cycle companions from Bromborough, John Moore and Simon Smith, are taking on the Liverpool Chester Liverpool cycle ride this summer in aid of local, life-saving cancer research.

The duo, who first took on the challenge in 2016 after forming ‘The Brombay Bicycle Club’ with a group of friends will conquer the lengthy 100 mile route, starting in Liverpool before cycling traffic free through the Queensway Tunnel and looping through North Chester. They’ll then head North, towards Alvanley and Frodsham, with some challenging climbs worth tackling to take in the picturesque Mersey view before heading back through the tunnel to finish in Liverpool.

This year’s cycle is extra meaningful for the friends, who have decided to raise money for local cancer research as one of their Brombay teammates was recently diagnosed with cancer.

John said: “Our friend’s cancer diagnosis came as a massive shock to us, so we decided this year to take part in the ride while raising funds for cancer research. We chose North West Cancer Research because it’s a charity that focuses on improving cancer outcomes for the people in our region.

“In the North West, cancer rates are 25% higher than the national average and the Charity focuses on those cancers which are significantly higher in our region, so it was the obvious choice to support a local charity, benefitting our family and friends.

“We have taken on the Liverpool Chester ride before, and this year we signed up for the 100 mile ride, as we thought it would be a real challenge that would be worthy of someone going to the trouble of sponsoring us! The support has come flooding in from friends, family and colleagues and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

Together the pair have beaten their targets and raised over £460, with sponsorship still coming in. If you would like to support The Brombay Bicycle Club on their 100 mile challenge, please visit the links below.
