North West Cancer Research joined the Scouts and Guides in August for a week of fun, freedom and adventure at the organisation’s annual Chamboree.
The Chamboree is an event open to Scout and Guide groups from around the world, hosting a programme of activities packed full of unique
and exciting opportunities.
Fundraisers Tess, Kathryn and Julie took to the event in Tabley, Cheshire, armed with a host of sun safety activities and the kids got crafty,
making UV keyrings that are reactive under the sun’s rays and left with plenty of knowledge about keeping safe in the sun.
Kathryn, Community Fundraising and Engagement Officer, said of the event: “We’ve loved spending a few days at the Chamboree and getting to meet loads of new people and keeping them sun safe. The UV keyrings are the perfect activity for an event like this, as it’s crafty and fun but also makes the young people truly understand the importance of protecting their skin from a young age.
“We found that the kids loved to show off their accessory and both young people and adults alike, were seeking us out to make their own to
take away and show their families and friends. It was brilliant to engage with everyone and seeing that ‘lightbulb moment’ when we spoke
about how important it is to be an advocate for your own body is priceless.”
